Job description

A member of the Asset Integrity Division, providing a diverse range of engineering technical services, including:

  • Structural vibration assessment and problem solving
  • Process piping vibration assessment and problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines)

Working within a team of typically 6-10 engineers in Asset Integrity Division.
Projects frequently involve a considerable amount of travelling and periods of time spent away from home, occasionally including international travel working on customer sites both onshore and offshore, in particular COMAH registered sites. Onshore work will typically be performed Monday to Friday whereas the offshore work will involve trips away from home for typically one - two weeks at a time.
To undergo graduate training and provide services in the following key areas:

  • Strain gauge installation
  • Structural dynamics
  • Instrumentation (sensors and data acquisition systems)
  • Data analysis
  • Structural vibration assessment and problem solving
  • Process piping vibration assessment and problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines)
  • Technical/commercial proposals for work
  • Job documentation including method statement, risk assessment and job specification.
  • CAD, FEA and other specialist software
  • Responsible for ensuring that all AVT reliability HSE and quality policies and procedures are adhered to on projects under your control.

What we are looking for

  • Good understanding of vibration and dynamic behaviour of structures and machines.
  • Some knowledge of structural vibration, measurement, assessment and problem solving.
  • Good understanding of metal fatigue failure mechanism.
  • Some experience of 3D CAD
  • Able to pass offshore medical and offshore survival course
  • A full driving license is required

Desirable:

  • All round knowledge of various industry maintenance best practices and asset strategy
  • Knowledge of FEA (ANSYS)
  • Knowledge of Operating Deflection Shape (ODS) Assessments
  • Knowledge of motion amplification techniques
  • Knowledge of process piping vibration assessment and problem solving (in accordance with Energy Institute guidelines)
  • Some knowledge of data analysis and signal processing.
  • Some experience in configuration and use of instrumentation and data logging systems
  • Some mechanical engineering experience with supplementary practical skills.
  • Ideally BSSM Level 1 or 2 certified (strain gauge installation)
  • Offshore medical & survival trained
  • Experience of providing commercial engineering consulting services to industry
  • Experience of site work
  • Broad mechanical engineering experience
  • Practical mechanical engineering experience and good understanding of mechanical engineering
  • Experience in the application and use of modern instrumentation and measurement techniques applied to structural or machinery monitoring applications
  • Structural design, development and testing
  • Oil and gas industry experience
  • Offshore work experience

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant engineering subject
