The Business Manager to the MD will support the both the strategy and day to day running of the organisation, working alongside support functions to ensure the MD is set up for success. The applicant needs to be ambitious, driven, discrete and comfortable with high pressure environments & ambiguity – always striving for the highest quality output and comfortable with challenging others to deliver. Fibre and Network Delivery (FND) is a £1bn business unit in Openreach, delivering services to communications providers across the UK and serving major corporate, business and government customers. This role uses the power of communication by creating synergies within the FND organisation to align business operations and enable us to create a better world.

What you'll be doing

I forward plan and prepare the MD for key meetings approaching. I prepare the MD for customer, internal, supplier and other meetings/presentations including pre-briefings, agenda, slideware and, if appropriate, scripts for example, Business Unit Reviews.
I will brief the MD on current issues, track actions, respond to emails where appropriate and deal with escalations etc. My role is to understand the context, relationship and interdependencies of initiatives and issues in order to make the right decision. I may accompany the MD to meetings if appropriate.
I engage with and manage both internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the MD including customers, suppliers, regulatory and political bodies, Openreach CEO, Exec members and Openreach Senior Management Team (SMT).
I act as an independent authority, pre-empting & taking decisions on areas of responsibility, e.g. the MD’s work stack, business management projects, escalations and the Openreach Superstars recognition programme.
I will ensure governance is in place and maintained on behalf of the MD office by setting agendas and acting as secretariat for FND leadership team meetings, ensuring minutes are produced, and actions are owned and followed through to completion.
I will be adaptable and flexible in managing extensions to and changes of responsibility within my role in the event of changing business priorities and/or organisational structure.
Inputting into risk & performance discussions, including ownership of scorecard creation and reporting
I provide direction and guidance, as needed, to the MD’s PA to ensure time is aligned to priorities.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and manage strong stakeholder relationships quickly. Evidence should be provided of personally owned and prepared presentations (e.g. operational reviews) for Director level consumption.
Highly structured and well-planned approach with the ability to adapt your plans to deal with ambiguity or change. Evidence of successfully building structure and plans from scratch in a complex and volatile business environment, demonstrating personal resilience and adaptability in the face of constant business, operational and customer demands.
Ability to operate in a high pressure/high visibility fast paced situation. Evidence should be provided of your approach to dealing with similar situations.
Ability to understand and translate analytical and complex messaging into a clear and concise story for a senior audience in either briefing or slide format.
Demonstrate absolute discretion when handling sensitive and confidential material. Qualifications:
Undergraduate graduate degree with a business/technical/professional qualification or equivalent experience

Allocating work to junior analyst/graduate, ensuring fully utilized on value add work.
