Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Java and Middleware Lead Developer to work within our AMD Service Centre based at Beeston, Nottingham.

The ideal candidate will have both a support and development background or has experience of working within a DevOps environment.

The person should be able to work under pressure, be able to multi-task, be delivery focussed and be a team player with a positive attitude and have good communication skills. This is a customer facing role therefore an ability to acquire requirements and propose solutions in a meaningful way is essential in order to communicate to varying levels of skillsets and knowledge.

The team in general works within all Atos’s target markets providing leveraged support and development solutions and services to our client base. In particular the Applications Management Delivery team and specifically this role, is concerned with the provision of Application support and development services to multiple clients. The team works with other specialised groups in Atos providing support for various Applications; UNIX, Desktop, networking, call centre etc. to provide an integrated service to the client.

The team work within a pressured and service level driven environment that is both challenging and rewarding and provides opportunities to work across many platforms.

All candidates will undertake a training programme within a clear learning plan that will allow you to gain the skills needed to help our clients protect all aspects of their investment in their chosen applications and technologies. We will therefore be looking to hire individuals who have a clear interest in IT and wish to build a long term career in the field with Atos.

Successful candidate must be able to travel to Beeston site within an hour (for on call out of hours support purposes). Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities include but not restricted to:

  • Proactively monitoring and managing supported applications.
  • Conduct customer site visits
  • Have a strong technical background in the support and maintenance of applications
  • Taking the lead and owning any high priority incidents and follow up actions
  • Resolution of incidents raised by customer within agreed SLAs
  • Provide technical knowledge and expertise both within and outside the team
  • Production of estimates for requested changes.
  • Identify gaps in knowledge across team and put in actions to address
  • Provision of development / enhancement services to supported customers.
  • Attendance, when necessary, at customer meetings providing updates and presenting technical information to clients as required.
  • Participation in on-call rota for out of hours support (including weekends and evenings).
  • Configuring applications and assisting in their deployment
  • Performing changes to existing systems and applications (configuration/customisation updates etc.)
  • Mentoring and training other members of the team
  • Proactively looking for areas of improvements on supported applications

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

Practical experience and working knowledge of:

  • Java 1.7 and above
  • Unix – Needed for in-depth troubleshooting of incidents / development activities as UNIX integration with JBOSS Fuse Middleware product is heavily interconnected. Also require NFS control understanding as this is key to the way the applications are configured and integrated with shared storage.
  • Middleware – JBOSS Fuse – The Service Works product is heavily utilised across the client base. Messaging and the troubleshooting of messages between integration points being the key area of knowledge required as this is an area deeply integrated within the products and the applications that utilise it, and, therefore the functionality that requires the most attention. The understanding / in-depth operating knowledge to set-up/configure and administer AMQ’s etc. is essential and currently missing within the team.
  • MySQL/Postgres – Developing/supporting applications built upon the MySQL platform
  • Experience of SOAP Webservices and/or RESTful Services
  • Experience in managing integration platforms based upon Service Orientated Architecture and/or Enteprise Integration Patterns
  • Familiarity with JEE (e.g. JPA, EJB, JSF)
