ABDOMINAL WALLRESEARCH FELLOW IN GENERAL SURGERYTHE POST
Applications are invited for a Abdominal Wall Research Fellow in General Surgery at York Teaching Hospital NHS FT. The post will be initially for one year fixed term with possibility of extending to two years and is suitable for a surgical trainee pre MRCS. This post provides opportunity for a trainee who has completed their foundation years training to undertake a period of closely supervised clinical research whilst enhancing their surgical skills through undertaking CT level on-calls and up to 2 clinical sessions per week which may include endoscopy, regular theatre lists or day surgery according to the needs of the trainee. This post may facilitate registration with the HYMS for the consideration of Postgraduate diploma or MSc.
THE TRUSTYork Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (YTHNFT) provides acute and community services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York and Scarborough, providing a range of specialist services over a wider catchment area across North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Rydale.
The main site of the Trust is, and will remain, The York Hospital which offers a range of inpatient and outpatient services with over 700 beds. Scarborough Hospital is the Trust's second largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma, intensive care and cardiothoracic services to the population and visitors to the North East Yorkshire Coast.
YTHNFT is part of the Hull and York Medical School (HYMS) with partners the University of York, University of Hull and Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. YTHNFT have Post Graduate Medical Centres on both the main sites in York and Scarborough, with up to date audiovisual equipment. There are good Medical and Nursing libraries available on both hospital sites. A permanent librarian is available and literature searches and reference articles are easily obtained. The library at York has close links with the library services at the University of York as well as the University of York St John.
