Royal Mail Fleet has expanded into the commercial sectors, where we repair and service a wide range of vehicles for external customers, as well as maintain our own fleet of around 45,000 vehicles. This is an exciting time for Royal Mail Fleet as we progress on our commercial journey and with that comes the opportunity to bring on board new talent to support our growth and cultural development.

On our Fleet management programme, you’ll get to grips with a fast-changing business, learn how to lead teams and take the first steps towards an exciting career – all at one of the UK’s most trusted and recognised companies.

Programme overview

  • Two-year programme
  • £27,000 per year (£2250pm) starting salary plus location allowances: Regions from £945 per year to £4,800 per year for inner London, £3,126 for outer London
  • Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship leading to BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Supply Chain Leadership
  • Management training to develop leadership skills
  • Support from buddies and mentors throughout the programme
  • Minimum 2:2 degree in any subject
  • Locations nationwide – graduates are expected to relocate throughout the programme
  • Right to work full time in the UK required
  • Closing date 23 November 2018
  • Interviews and assessment centres from 21 January to mid Feb 2019
  • Start Sept 2019.

About the programme

During our two-year programme, you’ll gain a unique insight into how we maintain and procure our vehicles, and strategically plan our operations. You’ll complete up to three placements in our Fleet Maintenance, Commercial, Engineering and Fleet Operations teams, learning the ropes and enjoying responsibility from day one. Whether it’s lorries or vans, you’ll discover how our vehicles are kept well maintained at our 110 vehicle workshops nationwide. You’ll also learn to how to handle commercial suppliers and the many different areas that rely on fleet management within the organisation.

We’ll give you hands-on responsibility from the moment you start, as well as formal leadership development. It’s all about developing your skills, raising your strategic awareness and showing you how to build the foundations for a great career. Our highly experienced managers will set you performance goals, while a buddy, mentor and people partners will act as your support network.

Getting to grips with the scale and complexity of the business needs further logistics and supply chain management technical expertise, so in your first year you’ll start working towards your Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship. This leads to a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Supply Chain Leadership. And while we expect you to use your initiative and champion your own development, you’ll also benefit from the guidance and support whilst studying.

Graduates are expected to relocate throughout the programme to any of our locations and we offer some financial support and time off to move as part of our relocation policy.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need a 2:2 degree or equivalent in any subject (business-related and logistics degrees are highly desirable).

We’re also looking for a strong sense of self-belief, and the confidence to get involved and handle any challenge that comes your way. You’ll need to be a people person and thrive as part of a team, and you’ll need a genuine desire to lead. The programme will help you learn how to inspire individuals and develop leadership skills.
