About the NHS
The NHS was created out of the ideal that good healthcare should be available to all, regardless of wealth. When it was launched in 1948, it was based on 3 core principles:
• that it meets the needs of everyone
• that it be free at the point of delivery
• that it be based on clinical need, not ability to pay
These 3 principles have guided the development of the NHS for the past 70 years and remain at its core.
Around 1.2 million people are employed by the NHS in England. Of those, the clinically qualified staff include 150,273 doctors, 40,584 general practitioners (GPs), 314,966 nurses and health visitors, 18,862 ambulance staff, and 111,127 hospital and community health service (HCHS) medical and dental staff.
About Health Education England
Health Education England (HEE) is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), under the provisions of the Care Act 2014. HEE believes that the most important resource the NHS has is its people. Without a skilled workforce there is no NHS. There are few careers that are as rewarding as one in the NHS, or that give you the opportunity to work with such a variety of people. Each and every one can make a difference to patients.
HEE exists for one reason only: to support the delivery of excellent healthcare and health improvement to the patients and public of England by ensuring that the workforce of today and tomorrow has the right numbers, skills, values and behaviours, at the right time and in the right place.
HEE covers four regions: London, Midlands and East, North and South.
About the Workforce Intelligence Team
The role sits within the Workforce Intelligence Team (WIT) of the HEE Midlands and East
Business Intelligence Unit (BIU). WIT supports the achievement of HEE Midland and East’s aim by identifying or collecting, processing and presenting data to inform decision-making relating to workforce issues.
About the role
This role is based in the Midlands and East region of HEE and is advertised in our Leicester location, but could be located in any of our Midlands and East offices (Cambridge, Leicester, Birmingham) depending on applicant’s location.
We are seeking a full-time Senior Information Analyst on a 12-month secondment opportunity or a fixed term contract, with the possibility for extension. The post- holder will work within the Workforce Intelligence Team (WIT) of the HEE Midlands and East Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) to provide analytical support to enable the successful delivery of regional and local initiatives.
As Senior Information Analyst, you will be responsible for the provision of information and analytics services to support business needs. The role requires advanced analytical skills and the ability to guide and advise on business intelligence and information management.
You will be self-motivated with excellent attention to detail, a natural ability to plan ahead, be able to apply your analytical skills and be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Strong interpersonal skills will be essential to support the day to day business requirements for HEE Midlands and East. The role covers a range of duties including the collection, analysis and reporting of insightful information to help our executive directors, senior managers and key stakeholders make informed business decisions, liaising with appropriate teams across HEE as required.
Relationship building will be an important element of this role and the post holder will be required to develop, implement, and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external senior stakeholders across HEE.
Key responsibilities include:
• helping customers to articulate their information requirements and advising on how data can be used to support business processes and decision making
• providing analytics through the use of appropriate tools (e.g. ESR, SQL Server, Tableau, Excel, PowerPoint) to extract, transform, query and present data
• providing authoritative information, guidance and advice on analytical solutions and implementation
• ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and strategy
• undertaking data analysis, data modelling and data transformation based upon identified business needs
