Role Profile

BAE Systems Air Sector Engineering is responsible for the design and build of fixed wing military, training aircraft and unmanned aircraft, as well as providing training, support and information services for the UK RAF and other customers worldwide.

The Systems Engineering role covers four areas, Engineering Integration, Flight Systems, Mission Systems and Information Systems.

Engineering Integration is responsible for ensuring that a customer’s requirements are translated into practicable solution architecture and partitions this into lower level specifications and requirements, ensuring that the resulting solution meets the customers’ requirements and is properly designed, certified, and controlled.

Flight Systems is responsible for the design, development, qualification, certification and support of domains such as Aircraft Ground Systems, Crew Systems and Flight Control Systems.

Missions Systems is responsible for the design, development, qualification, certification and support of various Avionic systems that include: Radar; Armaments; Defensive Aids; Displays & Controls. This also includes electromagnetics.

Information Systems engineering applies Systems Engineering approaches in order to conceive, realise and support directly customer-funded Information Systems that manage, exchange, manipulate and/or display information used in one or more of the customer’s processes.

The role is for a Systems Engineer to work in one of the above systems areas.

What you will be doing... (Role Duties and Responsibilities)

On a graduate placement an individual would be expected to be involved in a number of the above areas in order to develop a broad understanding of fast jet systems and the activities undertaken in the development and maintenance of such systems.

Typical tasks could be,

  • Design, development, qualification and support of various systems
  • Analysing and controlling customer requirements
  • System and subsystem decomposition of requirements
  • Designing, developing and conducting verification and validation tests
  • Architecting information system solutions
  • Experimentation, Visualisation and Demonstration
  • Enterprise/Battlespace Integration
  • Security Design and Accreditation
  • Information Service Provision and Management

Entry Requirements and what we are looking for

To apply, you’ll need to be on course for achieving a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical / Electronic Engineering or any other STEM subject.
