At EKHUFT we are pleased to be offering ST1/2 Trust doctors in Neonates to join our dynamic Child Health Team. The appointees will participate in a EWTD compliant full shift rota of ST1/2 grades on call cover for Neonates at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
The Child Health Department at EKHUFT encompasses a broad range of paediatric services with Inpatient paediatric and neonatal services located at the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) in Ashford, inpatient and Special Care Baby Unit facilities at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM) in Margate. Ambulatory paediatric care is provided at Dolphin Ward, Kent and Canterbury Hospital (KCH), Canterbury and Carousel Ward, Buckland Hospital, Dover. Community and outpatient services are provided in other facilities. Community Child Health is integrated within the East Kent Hospitals Trust.
Padua Ward at the WHH is a 28-bedded inpatient ward for children and young people. The ward contains two high dependency beds. There is an outdoor ‘roof’ play area and a good sized indoor ‘Sunshine’ playroom, with a range of toys and facilities for families. The ward provides a bedside school facility for children who have been admitted on the ward for a minimum of two weeks. There are two adolescent bays, gender divided, each with three beds and an adolescent lounge. The CAU located on the ward accepts referrals direct from ED and other appropriate refers.
The level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at WHH has current capacity for 7 Intensive Care (IT) 4 High Dependency (HD) and 14 Special Care (SC) Cots with proposed plans to increase SC/HD cots later in the year. The unit provides a whole range of medical intensive care including high frequency oscillation, nitric oxide therapy and therapeutic hypothermia. This post provides an excellent opportunity for training in Neonatology and there is an active program of medical education and involvement in neonatal research.
Rainbow ward at QEQM is a 20-bedded inpatient ward. There is a good size playroom and an outdoor play area with good facilities for children. The CAU located on the ward accepts referrals direct from the ED and other appropriate referrer. .Out-patients includes five consulting rooms and a nurse examining room. General and specialised out-patients clinics are provided at QEQMH.
The Level 1 Special care Baby Unit at QEQM has 12 cots, 2 HD & 10 SC.
The Executive Team have recently approved a business case to expand the Child Health Consultant Team and within this is the opportunity to develop our services as well as implement new and innovative ways of working. As part of this programme of innovation we would like to develop the service place to meet the demands and deliver a responsive and timely service to our local paediatric population.
The successful candidates will have enthusiasm and keen commitments to the Child Health Department by participating in clinical governance, quality improvement and cross site working.
