Job Location London, London, City of, United Kingdom

What is the opportunity?

The Real Estate Capital Partners (“RECP”) group was created as a standalone trading unit of RBC Capital Markets in 2011 in order to provide a platform from which RBC could originate real estate debt facilities. RECP is now a leading provider of debt capital to global premier real estate owners and sponsors, covering the US market from RECP’s office in Dallas and the Continental European, UK and Irish markets from RBC’s office in London. RECP’s mandate includes the origination of higher leverage mortgage and mezzanine loans (as well as the origination of debt-on-debt facilities) secured, in each case, by stabilized and transitional real estate assets across all major commercial real estate products types. With access to flexible capital, RECP is able to provide its clients with creative debt solutions that deliver the greatest possible return to clients on their equity investments.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Work alongside all members of RECP (from the other Analysts to the Managing Director) on the evaluation, underwriting and structuring of real estate debt facilities across the European real estate finance markets and in doing so, will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of these markets (from both a debt and equity point of view);
  • Be involved in all stages of the origination of real estate debt transactions, from the initial screening of a new transaction, to the due diligence and documentation review, through to the loan closing process;
  • Perform valuation analyses using various real estate valuation methodologies, including discounted cash flow, multiples valuation and transaction comparables as well as reviewing valuations prepared by third party valuation firms;
  • Assist with building detailed financial models to evaluate real estate performance under various operating scenarios and to analyze the impacts of various capital structures;
  • Assist the Analysts with the preparation of presentation materials for use in credit committee meetings – covering topics such as deal-level strategy, market overviews and commercial real estate activity updates;
  • Be involved in conducting product and sector research as well as being responsible for and have the opportunity to attend industry events and presentations (i.e. from valuers, lawyers and other third party industry bodies) as well as RECP client and team social events.

  • BA or equivalent (2:1 or above) with an emphasis in finance/accounting and/or real estate finance from an academically renowned university together with a proven track record of academic excellence at all levels;
  • Previous experience (i.e. internships/work experience) in either investment banking or a real estate finance focused business together with an ability to demonstrate a genuine interest in real estate finance and in the financial markets as a whole;
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, research and communication skills;
  • High proficiency in computer applications such as MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel; an ability to manage multiple competing priorities and a willingness to assume a high level of responsibility; initiative, determination, a “can do” attitude and a sense of humour – each of which you’ll need to succeed in the fast paced and challenging commercial environment that RECP provides;
  • A strong “team player” attitude – we firmly believe that there’s no “I” in team; and a personality and interests outside of your academic studies – someone who can bring something of themselves to the team!

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.
