Role Purpose

To support, protect and increase the medium to long term value of our European asset portfolio through a range of commercial activities to include, strategic planning and analysis, contract optimisation (negotiation and dispute resolution), sales and marketing and change management.

To play a key role in the implementation and ongoing development and expansion of their Energy Trading System and related applications

Responsibilities of the Business Analyst - Commercial include:

The responsibilities of the Business Analyst - Commercial will change over time as the make-up of InterGen’s UK portfolio continues to develop as a result of changes in the gas and power markets. Principal responsibilities are described below:

Business Analyst (Systems)

  • Gather and document user requirements, functional and technical design specifications
  • Scope and estimate the impact of system change requests and new enhancements
  • Work with the functional architect to define best practice solution designs
  • Build and configure on-technical aspects of the solution and work closely with technical developers to communicate business requirements and testing of code
  • Plan, prepare and execute systems, integration and other testing activities
  • Help manage and support end-to-end project delivery lifecycle from assessment, build, test to production release and post go-live support
  • Work with business process owners to define to-be business process and suggest improvements in the operating model

Business Analyst (Commercial)

  • Support the development and implementation of a commercial (contracting) strategy for our existing assets
  • Support in the development and implementation of a capacity market bidding strategy for our new projects
  • Support BPA, development and corporate strategy team to improve competitor and market analysis for strategic planning purposes
  • Support the planning and execution of integration of all new assets, contracts, systems and processes into Trading & Commercial departments
  • Efficient and accurate completion of all recurring contract and commercial management activities ensuring that all processes and systems are robust
  • Assist with ad-hoc contract issues that arise including disputes and queries, information requests, notifications etc.
  • Identifying opportunities for improving contract and commercial management processes and systems
  • Participate in commercial input into business planning process including assisting with the provision of key forecasts for contractual and regulatory matters

  • Strong stakeholder skills able to build relationships and credibility with the business users and IT teams
  • Excel, Powerpoint skills with VBA and SQL beneficial.
  • Strong analytical skills, addressing and solving problems in a structured manner with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management. Must be punctual and reliable.
  • A self-starter with a desire to learn quickly and thrive in a high performance environment
  • Able to work autonomously


  • Educated to at least degree level
  • Energy Industry Experience preferred but not essential
  • A basic understanding of the UK wholesale electricity market and key drivers (political, economic, environmental and technological) which influence the commercial performance of these assets.
  • A high level of numeracy and analytical skills to deal with complex commercial and operational dynamics of the energy markets and contracts
  • Experience with large system implementations, changes and optimisations highly preferred
  • An ability to design solutions and troubleshoot issues
  • Experience in the management and delivery of issue resolution, end user training and requirements gathering processes
  • A demonstrable ability to apply appropriate process and project management techniques
