The West Norfolk Breast Care Unit, part of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, is seeking locum cover for maternity leave commencing February 2019, for nine months, possibly extendable.
This represents a fantastic opportunity to work at consultant level within a department that has undergone significant improvements over the past few years. The department is now situated in its own purpose built building, which opened in 2016, and incorporates all consulting rooms, imaging, counselling and treatment rooms, in addition to our Breast Screening staff.
The department is staffed by two full time Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons (one to go on Maternity leave): the locum post will be supported by the second full time oncoplastic breast surgeon. We offer a full range of reconstructive techniques, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in these techniques, mentored if required by the substantive consultant. We also offer lipofilling, and again the opportunity exists to gain experience in this technique. Although we mainly perform implant based reconstructions, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to visit Norfolk & Norwich hospital to assist plastic surgeons with free flap reconstructions.
We have very well-staffed radiology support, with all new patients being seen in a one-stop setting, and staging/MRI scans performed within days. The West Norfolk Breast Unit is a screening unit. Histology support is via video-link to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge, with again a fast turn-around for biopsies and excision specimens.
King’s Lynn is situated in West Norfolk, close to a number of idyllic villages and fantastic beaches. There is a fast direct train to London Kings Cross, and the wonderful cities of Norwich and Cambridge are just an hour away.
This locum post would be ideal for a post CCT, ideally post-fellowship candidate wishing to gain further experience at consultant level, including the opportunity to undertake reconstructions in a supported environment.
