Leonardo - Engineering the Future
Looking for a great start to your career in technology, earning and learning on a professionally accredited, award-winning scheme?
We are looking to recruit the technical and business experts of the future through our nationally recognised, award-winning Apprenticeship Programmes.
Leonardo’s four-year Technical Apprenticeship provides a wealth of learning and development opportunities. Working with world-leading specialists, you will increase your technical skills and capability, and develop your academic and practical understanding of the engineering lifecycle.
You will undertake a series of rotational placements in the methods of developing electrical and mechanical systems – covering Systems, Mechanical, Hardware and Software Engineering – to give you a flavour of all aspects of engineering design. These will include learning the methods of developing electrical and mechanical systems, designing mechanical components and assemblies using CAD program Creo 4.0, and being in a laboratory to test and develop cutting-edge PCB assemblies.
You will be working within cutting-edge facilities and there may be opportunities for travel between the company’s UK sites to meet with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibility Areas
Years 1 and 2:
During your first year you will spend most of your time at college completing a Level 3 BTEC in engineering. Upon completion, you will return to Leonardo to start your three-month rotational placements, while keeping a log of all the work you complete which will then be used towards your Level 3 NVQ. During your second year of college you will only go to college one day a week and spend the rest of the time completing the placements.
Years 3 and 4:
Once you have finished your Level 3 BTEC, you will then go onto study your Level 4 HNC in engineering which is completed one day a week at college. This will be done alongside your previously started NVQ. Once in your 3rd year, you will get more involved in specific projects and become a key player within the team/department. For your final year, you will be selected through a combination of interview and academic/vocational progress to focus your development in a final work placement that lasts for the remainder of the apprenticeship.
