Job Description

Gatwick Detainees Welfare Group (GDWG) are looking for a Senior Advocacy Coordinator / Advocacy Coordinator (depending on experience level) to support the charity’s vital and busy work providing emotional and practical support to people held in the two immigration removal centres at Gatwick Airport. We are currently developing our work to meet the increasing needs of people held in detention at Gatwick. We work closely with other NGOs to advocate for the rights of people in detention in the UK, and to call for an end to indefinite detention.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in carrying out casework with asylum seekers and other migrants, and supporting vulnerable people, and will be familiar with the issues surrounding immigration detention. You will have either been a volunteer, or worked with volunteers, and preferably have been involved in delivering training. Good communication skills are essential, as are strong IT and administrative skills. Although GDWG is not able to give immigration advice, legal referrals are a key aspect of our casework, and experience as an immigration advisor is desirable.

Please note that we will consider filling the role on either a full-time or job-share basis.

Contract: Initial one year contract, 2-5 days per week.

Annual leave: 25 days per annum (excluding bank holidays), pro-rata.

Salary: £21,000 - £26,000 per annum depending on experience, pro rata.

For further details, please download the person specification and job description from our website.

Closing date: Midnight, Sunday 2nd December 2018

Interviews: Week commencing 10th December 2018 (date to be confirmed)

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a DBS check and any offer of employment is subject to a satisfactory disclosure.
