DATA SCIENCE INTERN

Over ten weeks you’ll help us tell a story with our numbers. How can we understand our customers better? Where are our risks? How are our marketing campaigns doing?

The answers are in the data. If you can find them and explain them, you’ll be at the heart of our business. Creative problem-solving is the key to data science. Here, you’ll:

  • Use the latest tech tricks (like machine-learning) to improve our business
  • Design models and experiments and present them to our senior managers
  • Put our new products and processes through their paces

We'll need to be able to see that you can sort through a huge volume of data, use statistics and clearly explain what you find. So, you’ll need to be part-way through a degree in something analytical. You’ll need to know your programming languages too, ideally R or Python.

SOFTWARE ACADEMY INTERN

Over ten weeks, you’ll be taking on real projects and development training. You’ll have a buddy on your team, a programme mentor – and you’ll even get to meet the CEO. You can also expect to:

  • Hone your skills within your chosen area in everything from APIs to mobile, big data and cyber security – you’ll get a masterclass in software engineering
  • ‘Build solutions on the Cloud by leveraging Open Source technologies to totally reimagine our business’
  • Learn how automated testing provides the quality that allows us to move at speed’
  • Learn all about Capital One and the industry we’re working to humanise
  • Become a master of Agile working and get used to daily stand-ups and collaborative designs

You’ll have the basics down

You don’t need to be on a Computer Science degree course, but you’ll need to be able to program. We don’t expect you to be an accomplished developer – just enthusiastic and a quick learner.

Location: Nottingham, London

FINANCE ANALYST INTERN

Over ten weeks, you’ll be taking on real projects and development training. You’ll have a buddy on your team, a programme mentor –and you’ll even get to meet the CEO. You can also expect to:

  • Find ways to boost our profits by analysing and forecasting our business results
  • Work on analytical projects that’ll help to shape our entire business strategy
  • Help us to find creative new improvements to things like report automation and data visualisation
  • Keep our US parent company up to date on what’s happening at Capital One, with reports directly to our top leaders

You’ll be a people person with a head for figures

It’s no good understanding the figures if you can’t explain them. You’ll need to keep information flowing smoothly to and from lots of different people.

BUSINESS ANALYTICS & CONSULTING SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

Over ten weeks, you’ll be taking on real projects and development training. You’ll have a buddy on your team, a programme mentor –and you’ll even get to meet the CEO. You can also expect to:

  • Pore over the data to find clever ways to win new customers
  • Come up with new ways to help our customers stay on track with their credit

Your degree subject isn’t important for this role – you might be studying a STEM subject, it could be finance or economics, or it could be something else altogether. It’s your problem-solving skills that count here.
