There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced counsellor to join the Harrow Talking Therapies Service. We are looking for an enthusiastic counsellor, with a strong clinical background in brief counselling treatments and supervision experience to join the Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) team for 3 days a week (22.5 hours) on a permanent basis. It is expected that the candidate will be able to offer Wednesdays and Fridays.
The post holder will be expected to carry a clinical caseload and provide brief focused counselling treatment for common mental health problems at step 3 level. The post holder will also provide supervision for individual counsellors and small groups. The post holder will contribute to the management and further development of counselling provision within the Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) Service as determined by the Lead Counsellor. The post holder will also be expected to act up and cover for the Lead Counsellor during annual leave or as appropriate.
The post holder will be expected to offer appointments to clients during early mornings and late evenings as part of extended hours clinics offered by the service between 8.00 am to 8.00 pm.
We are looking for applicants who have enthusiasm for working in a primary care and an IAPT service, who are adaptable, enjoy variety, and are able to work independently as well as within a team context. Candidates should be competent in providing brief focused counselling using an evidence based approach e.g., psychodynamic, client centred, solution focused, humanistic etc as well as an interest in staff management and working alongside the lead counsellor in service development.
The post holder should be registered with the UKCP, BPC, HCPC or an equivalent professional bodies and/or accredited with BACP.
Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) Service was established in 2011 with a central hub housing all the IAPT staff team. It has recently expanded to become a large team with both step 2 and 3 CBT and step 3 counselling therapists’. The service is responsible for the provision of Low intensity and High Intensity therapies within the standards of stepped care model. The counselling service is part of step 3 provision and includes generic brief focused counselling from different approaches. The Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) Service provides individual and group based treatments for the population of Harrow in many different languages.
The service meets a high level of need given current resources and has also expanded recently to meet the demands of the local population. The central hub is currently a comfortable building with the required IT resources located in 12-14 Station Road, Harrow. The staff team also provide services within GP surgeries as well as in other sites, including the central hub.
The post holder will receive regular supervision and support from the lead Counsellor as well as benefit from support and guidance from other Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) team members and will work collaboratively with other senior staff within the overall team. The Harrow Talking Therapies (IAPT) team has close links with other teams within the Harrow Mental Health Service. There are also wider links with other IAPT services within CNWL Foundation Trust and the Trust-wide clinical psychology services.
