BEDFORD HOSPITAL NHS TRUSTSENIOR CLINICAL FELLOW IN ORTHOPAEDICS AND TRAUMA
Applications are invited for the above position based at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust for an experienced Senior Clinical Fellow commencing as soon as possible for a period of 12 months in the first instance but with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.
The post-holder will be expected to have at least 18 months experience at middle grade level. Confidence in undertaking all common trauma operations will be expected. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of trauma and elective surgery and given training as needed to increase their experience. Subspecialties include Lower limb Arthroplasty Surgery, including Complex and Revision Surgery, Shoulder surgery, Foot and Ankle Surgery and Paediatric Surgery.Those who have completed their training, but who wish to gain further exposure in these subspecialty areas before taking up independent practice as a Consultant may also wish to apply. Research opportunities exist, both within the department and through our close links with Cranfield University, for those who are interested.
The Trauma and Orthopedics department offers a comprehensive service to approximately 300,000 patients in Bedford and the surrounding areas, covering the full spectrum of elective Orthopedics Surgery (except Spinal Surgery) and a modern well-equipped trauma service with trauma unit status. There is a dedicated orthopedic outpatient department and 2 laminar flow theatres. We operate a week on-call system and you will participate in the on-call rota, currently is 1:8 (non-resident on-call).
Bedford Hospital is an acute hospital with all acute Specialties on site, including vascular surgery and on-site plastic surgery. It has consistently been rated one of the top 40 hospitals in the country.
It serves the population of north Bedfordshire and is situated between the A1 and M1 with excellent transport links to London and astride the A428/A45/A14 route to mainland Europe.
The post is not recognized for training and therefore does not have educational and training approval from the Postgraduate Dean or Royal College.
