We are offering a wonderful opportunity to work on the doorstep of the Lake District National Park.
We seek an additional member for our middle grade team of experienced Paediatric Specialty Doctors and Paediatric Nurse Practitioners in our newly built, State of the Art hospital at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, part of the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust (NCUH). Please also refer to the additional documents attached, for Paediatric Department and Corporate information. The Trust has recognised that there is a national shortage of candidates for Locum Specialty Doctor vacancies in some specialities. So, in order to attract suitable candidates to posts which the Trust has defined as hard to fill, the Trust has recently agreed to award a discretionary premium to posts which are specifically agreed by the organisation. This post currently attracts a discretionary recruitment premium of up to 15% (based on basic salary) per annum. This is payable for up to four years and is reviewed by the Trust on an annual basis.
POST AND DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work either full or part-time as a Locum Specialty Doctor Paediatrician. We seek to appoint applicants who are interested in the diversity of clinical opportunities that are available to those working within a District General Hospital. The Paediatric Department in North Cumbria is further developing its Short Stay Paediatric Assessment Units on both the Whitehaven and Carlisle sites (SSPAU). The North Cumbria Units provide consultant care for both General Paediatrics and the level one Special Care Baby unit. Those babies requiring high dependency or neonatal intensive care are retrieved by the Regional Neonatal Transport Team. A regular programme of organisational and educational meetings underpins the service. There is a regular commitment to audit and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The Tier 2 Specialty Doctors are closely supported by consultant paediatricians and by a very experienced Nurse Practitioner with a junior tier of doctors comprising 2 GPST/1 Paediatric ST1, and 2 FY2s (Tier 1) On both sites there are plans for further expansion in Consultant Paediatric numbers to provide resident experienced senior cover and support in the Assessment of Children referred to hospital. As with all North Cumbrian appointments, and in line with the Terms and Conditions of Specialty Doctors 2008,Specilty Doctors may be required to work Trust wide.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a comprehensive range of high quality general paediatric hospital services to the people of North Cumbria. We are currently working with our Commissioners on the development of integrated child health services for the whole of Cumbria that will involve simultaneous input by primary and secondary healthcare, community paediatrics, CAMHS and Social care where required.
