The Urology Department at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust provides a Urology Service across the Trust sites. These include Scunthorpe General Hospital, Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby and Goole and District Hospital. This post will be based at Scunthorpe General Hospital but will be required to provide services Trustwide.
The department at Scunthorpe and Grimsby provides a full range of Urological procedures and works closely with Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals where radical surgery is performed in line with the requirements of the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Clinical Network. The department is keen to further enhance these links with increased cross service provisions.
Goole and District Hospital supports Outpatients and Day Cases together with endoscopic procedures – Goole also has a major Laser Surgery Centre on site. All hospital sites provide dedicated flexible-cystoscopy sessions within fully equipped Endoscopy Departments.
The Urology Service recently invested in Modern Urodynamics equipment and has undergone an extensive refurbishment with Olympus equipment across all sites and offers all services including ESWL, percutaneous and laparoscopic surgery. Centre services have historically been by in-reach surgeons from NLAG to Castle Hill in Hull.
Currently the Urology service is reduced to five whole time consultants and 1 part- time, and is currently expanding the junior base. There are 4 specialist grade doctors, 2 x CT1 equivalents, 1 x F2 and 4 x F1s or equivalent as support. They are distributed over the two main hospital sites, Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital. The applicant, therefore, must be prepared to become part of a multisite team and work effectively as a team player. It has been agreed that the training requirements of the junior staff are such that the Associate Specialist/Trust Grade numbers will look to be increased to allow for a middle grade on call rota.
