For 25 years, Global Witness has been protecting human rights and the environment by confronting corruption and the systems that enable it.
Many of the world’s worst environmental and human rights abuses are driven by the exploitation of natural resources and corruption in the global political and economic system. Global Witness is campaigning to end this. We carry out hard-hitting investigations, expose these abuses, and campaign for change. We are independent, not-for-profit, and work with partners around the world in our fight for justice.
Over the years we have helped cut funding to the Khmer Rouge, brought blood diamonds and mineral-financed conflicts to the world’s attention, exposed how the corruption in the oil industry wrecks lives and habitats in some of the world’s poorest countries and gone undercover to show the how the global financial system makes such crimes possible.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Campaigner in our Conflict Resources team you’ll play a key role in providing robust research and investigations in order to disrupt links between the extraction and trade in natural resources.
You’ll primarily focus on precious metals, actively developing productive relationships with a variety of sources, conducting thorough research and building fact-based and robust dossiers of evidence that underpin published investigations.
You will meet with policy-makers to influence policy and legislation and advocate for responsible governance of natural resources and transparent supply chains at national and international levels.
You’ll drive an ambitious investigative agenda, developing advocacy strategies and messages that ensure meaningful change and impact is achieved.
You’ll bring your experience of investigating and researching supply chains, metal markets or financial crime.
Your knowledge of investigation techniques, conducting research and data analysis will be key to success in this role.
Finally, your fluency in Spanish and/or Arabic will ensure you are able to build key relationships and communicate our policy messages effectively. Whilst it is important to be fluent in English, it does not have to be your native language.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US
We’ll reward you through a combination of exciting and creative work together with a sector competitive salary and benefits package, high levels of engagement and involvement, and a dedication to your development.
Benefits include a generous leave allowance, pension scheme and health insurance as well as opportunities to work flexibly in an engaging and friendly environment.
We aim to be a diverse and inclusive place to work. We value new points of view, original ideas and different ways of working. We believe that diverse views and experiences improve the way we do our work. We do our best to make our jobs accessible to all regardless of race, colour, religious belief, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, or other groups as protected by law.
The job description is available below in English, Spanish and Arabic.
Please send in your cover letter carefully describing your suitability for the role, and CV by Midnight on 21 November 2018.
