Salary: London Living Wage London Living Wage £10.20 per hour - £357 per week

Location: Ilford, Redbridge

Term: 4 months initially but definite extension for the right candidate

Hours: Full-time, 35 per week

This role would be ideal for a graduate with an interest in working in Local Government. This 4 month internship will provide the successful intern with an insight across all departments within the London Borough of Redbridge and is an excellent opportunity to be involved in high level, high profile projects within the Change team. This will also be a great opportunity for the graduate to work in a dynamic and vibrant environment.

The role is based at the Council offices in Ilford, so please ensure travel to this location is possible.Before applying for the position, please ensure that you are happy with the salary and you are happy to travel to Ilford. The Role
The Change Team is responsible for delivering a major change programme impacting upon all services across the Council. The Change Team help to redesign and refocus service delivery.

As an authority we will no longer be able to deliver the same services and as such more innovative ways to deliver services across Redbridge are required. Working alongside service areas the Change Team will work to enable service based transformation projects. The graduate intern will play a key role in helping to deliver the Council's Change Programmes and will be responsible for contributing towards delivering a number of projects to support improved outcomes for residents.
Using a range of project methodologies the successful candidate will work with experienced Project Managers and a wide range of stakeholders to deliver significant projects. The Intern will have the opportunity to work alongside the Chief Executive, Director of Change plus other key employees of the Corporate Change team.

Key tasks and deliverables
The graduate intern will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and will assist in the in the delivery of a number of elements of each project which include:

  • Support the Project Manager with the day to day project decisions to ensure the project is on track to deliver the expected benefits
  • Undertake research and obtain information, evaluate data to produce reports/information to inform decisions and support recommendation
  • Stakeholders engagement and communications
  • Business Analysis
  • Developing and maintaining key project documentation
  • Support strategy development for new projects and initiatives

What basic skills and competencies are required for this position?

A degree in any area but must have a clear interest in change and local government.

  • Must be able to demonstrate a clear passion and interest in local government
  • Previous charity/project work
  • Must be a self-starter, there will be training at the beginning of the placement but the successful intern will have the opportunity work on high profile projects.
  • The successful intern MUST have a clear hardworking attitude and a willingness to work hard. This role will provide the graduate the opportunity to learn and grow so Redbridge are looking for an intern who is eager to make the most out of this internship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise project deliverables within the specified timeframes.
  • Good IT and literacy skills.
  • Good time management and organisation skills and the ability to drive the project forward within an agreed framework with minimum supervision.
  • Willingness to embrace a range of project methodologies
