Role Profile

As a Mechanical Engineer you’ll be the one who turns ideas into products. You’ll be involved in the design, development and testing of complex mechanical systems. In the early stages of a project, you’ll apply scientific principles and technical information to generate concept ideas. After this, you’ll select the most suitable design and turn it into a viable solution.

Our military and commercial programmes require us to push our capabilities and technologies to the limit of what is achievable today. This raises many challenges for the system as it must ultimately meet both our customer’s stringent safety requirements and bring leading edge performance to give competitive advantage wherever applied.

What you will be doing... (Role Duties and Responsibilities)

Successful applicants will form part of a multi-disciplinary team providing Through Life Support to Land Systems armoured vehicle platforms via membership of the In-Service Support (ISS) Integrated Delivery Team. The specific role is to devise mechanical design solutions for in-service military vehicles, their derivatives and support equipment for one of the established engineering groups based in either Telford or Washington. Main responsibilities and duties could include but not be limited to:

• Assisting in the analysis of customer requirements and their subsequent decomposition into functional system and sub system design requirements.

• Carry out engineering calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action.

• Developing inspection and quality controls

• Assisting in trade studies and supplier selection, including equipment/supplier surveys and selection.

• Attending trials and providing technical advice where required.

• The generation and review of technical reports and other technical documentation

Entry Requirements and what we are looking for

To apply, you’ll need to be on course for achieving a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering degree disciplines preferred. Accept engineering/maths/physics related degrees only.
