The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is seeking an enthusiastic and efficient administrative assistant to provide membership, communications, events and general administrative support to the Association for Geographic Information (AGI).
The AGI and The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)
The Society has been contracted by the AGI to deliver membership, financial and administrative services, working alongside the AGI’s Council. The AGI Administrative Officer will be employed by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) as part of that contract, to help the Society deliver administrative support under the AGI brand, to AGI members and contacts. The Society and the AGI also have signed a strategic alliance in February 2017, which sees them working closely together to advance the understanding and use of geographic information.
The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is a charity and the learned society and professional body representing geography and geographers. The Society was founded in 1830 and has been one of the most active of the learned societies ever since. It was pivotal in establishing geography as a teaching and research discipline in British universities, and has played a key role in geographical and environmental education ever since. Today the Society is a leading world centre for geographical learning - supporting education, teaching, research and scientific expeditions, as well as promoting public understanding and enjoyment of geography, and geography in policy.
The AGI is a forward-thinking organisation with a reputation for connecting innovators in geospatial with individuals and businesses in other disciplines: technology, Big Data, analytics, business development, policy-making, software etc. The work of the AGI promotes the value and benefits of using location in work, business, and every walk of life; to help bridge the gap between disciplines by supporting members through networking, accreditation, events and collaboration; and representing those in the UK who are working with, or would like to work with, geospatial data.
Salary and application details
This is a one year appointment in the first instance (continuation is contingent on renewal of the AGI contract for services) to be made by the RGS-IBG, salaried between £25,845 - £27,218 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. There is a three month probationary period. Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year plus the periods over which the Society is closed between Christmas and New Year and for Bank holidays. Subsidised lunches are available on site, and there is a season ticket loan scheme. The Society offers a personal pension scheme to which it currently contributes 7.5% of gross salary. The Society aims to be an equal opportunities employer.
