Our client is transcending generational and societal barriers, connecting young professionals with networks reaching far-and-wide to elders with deep-lying roots in their respective community. London is a place of extremes. While our capital is one of the most dynamic places in the world, full of cultural and economic opportunities and a hotbed of innovation and change, it can also be anonymous, lonely and isolating. Globalisation, gentrification, digitisation and rapid community change have made the boroughs in which they focus (Camden and Islington) places of social extremes. The result is that many elder people have deep roots in their communities but fewer connections, whilst the reverse is true for young professionals. This disconnect wastes human potential, perpetuating social division and entrenching isolation.
The company are on a mission to reduce this growing plight, improving confidence, resilience, connection and power among all participants, ensuring that both older and younger neighbours alike are able to navigate the constantly evolving society in which we live. In seeking to mobilise young professionals, these two groups, often living side-by-side, much is there to be gained from one another in shared time, laughter and especially, friendship.
Our client is looking for an outreach officer to work closely with their Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator along with the wider team. Working primarily on their Winter Wellbeing project, your role will be vital to ensuring that elderly people (over 65) are neither left alone nor behind during the coldest and often most isolating months. The role may be challenging, but one which, over the course of your 4 months (with the potential for 6), will enhance your project management and outreach skills to no end. Alongside this, a huge contribution to the cause of our client and indeed to our elder neighbours in Camden and Islington will be made.
·Reach out to elderly people, maintaining proactive outreach methods according to our clients’ Winter Wellbeing programme.
·Maintain regular communication with elderly people, be it through telephone, letters or email – these will be identified through Winter Wellbeing as vulnerable thus requiring support.
·Field and receive calls to the Winter Wellbeing phone line.
·Source, order and organise delivery for distribution of warm clothing and items.
·Liase with social services along with local partner organisations in creating appropriate referrals.
·Liase with our clients Love Your Neighbour and Social Clubs Coordinators in directing people into year-round programmes as appropriate.
·Organise and manage Winter Wellbeing volunteer days
·Promote Winter Wellbeing project, attending events when appropriate.
·Design effective and inclusive posters and flyers
·Administration and communication support across all core programmes
·You must be an approachable, empathetic, resilient individual.
·A confident communicator, with the ability to build trusting relationships across all backgrounds
·High-level written and administrative qualities, organisation and efficiency in record-keeping is crucial
·Able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of a fast-moving project.
·Clear DBS certification
·Relevant experience in a people-facing role
