Undertake a defined range of environmental engineering activities to support the Project Environmental Engineers, and the Head of Environmental Engineering Governance, supplying research and support and/or to organise and co-ordinate aspects of environmental management and assessment activity ensuring defined objectives are achieved whilst continually maintaining quality and service requirements.
What you will be doing... (Role Duties and Responsibilities)
As an Environmental Engineer you’ll look at projects from an environmental compliance and sustainability point of view, applying an environmental management system. Whereas other engineers focus on delivering capability, you’ll be concerned with how this capability impacts on the environment through the life of the product.
There will be relevant legislation, which we aim to comply with even when Defence equipment is exempted. There will be direct and indirect environmental impacts, both steady state from operation such as energy and materials use, and then the avoidable risks from say accidental discharges and potential harm to biodiversity. Climate change will impact upon our products through their long service life, and we try to design a more resilient product to address this, and customer concerns such as energy security.
