Who we are

Whether we’re building the world’s most efficient large aero-engine or supporting NASA missions on the edge of space, Rolls-Royce is all about innovation. We invest £1 billion every year into research and development, and file more patents annually than any other company in the UK. Working at Rolls-Royce means being part of a global team of 50,000 bold, curious pioneers, creating cleaner, faster, more competitive power. It means looking to the future, and shaping the world we live in.

Rolls-Royce is renowned for its commitment to delivering engineering excellence. And in Control Systems, we provide safety-critical controls for customers around the world, drawing on our decades of experience to provide solutions for the aerospace, marine, and nuclear markets. Our Software Engineers strive to create better, more innovative products and services every day and will inspire you to do work that you can be truly proud of.

The programme

Our Software Engineering Internship Programme is the perfect place for people who are passionate about innovation to achieve their ambitions. As well as giving you first-hand insights into our world-class business, it will set you on the path towards a challenging and rewarding career. Perform well, and it could lead to a place on our graduate development programme – a fantastic start to a career with a world-leading industrial technology company. If you’re a student member of an institute, experience gained on your internship can be used to credit some of your learning towards your graduate programme and chartership status, should you choose to join us.

What you’ll do

Our talented Software Engineers work on the full software development lifecycle, applying the most rigorous standards to ensure the absolute integrity of our engine control products. You’ll hit the ground running by helping them to create the 'brain' of the engine, and learning how to develop multi-processor, safety-critical, real-time embedded systems using sophisticated tools, techniques and programming languages. Throughout the year, you’ll learn from, and be supported by, the best in the business as you gain practical experience and develop valuable skills. You’ll also experience real-life assignments that will test you like never before.

What you’ll need

We want to see great communication skills developed through well-rounded life experience – academically, socially and in any previous work situations. You should also be on course to achieve at least 2:1 BEng or equivalent.

What you’ll get

  • £17,850 pa (pro rata).
  • Learn from experts.
  • The chance to join our graduate programme if you perform well.
